These days, the internet provides free exposure to every stand up comedian, so it\u2019s worth thinking about how much to post. You may not hear your joke being done at the comedy club in your hometown, but there are different parts of this country, and other English-speaking countries, where your material may get used.\u00a0<\/p>\n [\/et_pb_text][\/et_pb_column][\/et_pb_row][et_pb_row _builder_version=”4.16″ _module_preset=”default” custom_margin=”-19px|auto||auto||” global_colors_info=”{}”][et_pb_column type=”4_4″ _builder_version=”4.16″ _module_preset=”default” global_colors_info=”{}”][et_pb_text _builder_version=”4.17.4″ _module_preset=”default” global_colors_info=”{}”]<\/p>\n That is one of the consequences of having your stand-up comedy material out there in the public.<\/p>\n On the other hand, YouTube is constantly scanning the internet and if their software finds any duplication of your video. If they discover any significant portion of your subtitle script, they\u2019ll let you know. Being online comes with its own digital protection.<\/p>\n Posted material receives a time stamp, which serves as your copyright. If someone does that same material\u2014word for word\u2014you can call them on it and say, \u201cHey, I’ve got proof I was the first to perform this particular bit, so stop doing my material.”<\/p>\n Keep in mind, that many routines and jokes contain the same premise, or similar wording. But if someone is telling your joke verbatim, then it\u2019s probably been lifted.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n YouTube is a great platform for the Stand Up Comedian, for many reasons.\u00a0 You can use it to store clips you’d like to selectively send others, or to have clips of your performances that people can watch and start following you.<\/p>\n YouTube has three settings for uploaded videos:<\/strong><\/p>\n 1. Public: Once posted, these videos can be accessed by anyone. [\/et_pb_text][\/et_pb_column][\/et_pb_row][et_pb_row column_structure=”1_2,1_2″ _builder_version=”4.16″ _module_preset=”default” min_height=”332px” custom_margin=”|auto|-31px|auto||” global_colors_info=”{}”][et_pb_column type=”1_2″ _builder_version=”4.16″ _module_preset=”default” global_colors_info=”{}”][et_pb_text _builder_version=”4.17.4″ _module_preset=”default” global_colors_info=”{}”]<\/p>\n I recently discovered that approximately 80% of the people who watch videos on their cell phones keep them on mute and read the subtitles. They are also more likely to view the video to the end.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n Have a look at this YouTube Video to get an idea of what properly done subtitles look like.<\/p>\n [\/et_pb_text][\/et_pb_column][et_pb_column type=”1_2″ _builder_version=”4.16″ _module_preset=”default” global_colors_info=”{}”][et_pb_video src=”https:\/\/youtu.be\/ubMC4J1w-m0″ _builder_version=”4.17.4″ _module_preset=”default” global_colors_info=”{}”][\/et_pb_video][\/et_pb_column][\/et_pb_row][et_pb_row _builder_version=”4.17.4″ _module_preset=”default” custom_padding=”0px|||||” global_colors_info=”{}”][et_pb_column type=”4_4″ _builder_version=”4.17.4″ _module_preset=”default” global_colors_info=”{}”][et_pb_text _builder_version=”4.17.4″ _module_preset=”default” global_colors_info=”{}”]<\/p>\n Take the time to correct the subtitles. YouTube automatically generates a subtitle script, but it\u2019s often imperfect.<\/p>\n For example, the subtitles on one of my videos were so off the mark that someone wrote to me recently and asked: \u201cWhat do you mean by \u2018Nazis keep rattling me?\u2019\u201d What I actually said was, \u201cI did not see the rattler,\u201d referring to a snake in my garden.<\/p>\n If you\u2019re going to post on YouTube, you need to learn how to edit your subtitles.<\/p>\n Otherwise, your jokes may not come across to your audience. Then the Nazis will keep on rattling!\u00a0<\/p>\n You should be putting into the public small clips of your stand-up comedy shows. Two or three jokes each, so if somebody does lift a joke, it won\u2019t be horribly damaging. That\u2019s a great way to stay both visible online and well prepared for booking opportunities.<\/p>\n [\/et_pb_text][\/et_pb_column][\/et_pb_row][et_pb_row column_structure=”1_2,1_2″
